This is an 18-month internship opportunity within the City of Johannesburg’s Transport Department, specifically in the Scheduled Transport Operations and Control Centre. The role is designed for graduates who have completed a National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in fields such as Information Technology, Data Analysis, Advanced Public Transport Management Systems (APTMS), or Automated Fare Collection (AFC). The primary function involves operating intelligent transport system terminals, monitoring sales data, identifying technology issues, and generating operational reports. The position offers a monthly stipend of R10,109.86 and provides key learning areas in project management, financial evaluation, and stakeholder coordination. Internship Overview

This internship opportunity is part of CoJ’s initiative to provide on-the-job exposure to students who need practical experience to complete or complement their academic qualifications.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (NQF Level 4)
  • Completed National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in one of the following:
  • Information Technology / Network and Communication (ICT)
  • Advanced Public Transport Management Systems (APTMS)
  • Data Analysis
  • Automated Fare Collection (AFC)
  • Must reside in the City of Johannesburg

Primary Function

  • Operate AFC system terminals and monitor “online” sales data from vendors and buses
  • Identify and escalate technology inconsistencies
  • Generate daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports
  • Assist with revenue and expenditure evaluations

Key Learning Areas

  • Application assessment and strategy development
  • Financial and stakeholder management
  • Staff coordination
  • Project management (on-time and within budget delivery)
